Death: Life’s Greatest Mystery
For every living being on this planet, death is the greatest mystery of them all.
The ways that we experience death, celebrate life, and wonder about what’s next are part of what makes us human— yet it’s also a subject we often push aside. At the Field Museum’s newest exhibition, you can explore perspectives on death and life through culture, science, and art.

Morbid Anatomy
Morbid Anatomy was created as a blog by Joanna Ebenstein in support of a photo exhibition in 2007. Since then, it has expanded to include the Morbid Anatomy Library, lectures, exhibitions, classes, spectacles, symposia, field trips, books, parties, and films.
It is best known for its brief incarnation as the critically acclaimed Morbid Anatomy Museum (2013-2016), co founded by Ebenstein with Tracy Hurley Martin in Brooklyn, New York.
Today, Morbid Anatomy is overseen by its founder and creative director Joanna Ebenstein and programming director and head librarian Laetitia Barbier.
The Silent Film Society of Chicago
The Silent Film Society of Chicago is dedicated to the preservation and proper presentation of silent films. www.silentfilmchicago.com
The Silent Film Society of Chicago is dedicated to the preservation and proper presentation of silent films. With 80% of all silent film prints no longer in existence, the Society’s goal is to heighten public awareness to expedite silent film preservation. It accomplishes this with proper presentation of the silent film — historically, technically, and artistically.
In addition to offering silent film screenings at the Des Plaines Theater, the Pickwick theater in Park Ridge, Carl Schurz High School’s Slocum Hall, and other venues in the Chicago area, the Society offers youth programs for students in grades 5 through 12. Discovering the Silent Cinema provides students with a retrospective of the silent film era and shows the evolution of the cinema from the early 1900’s to the advent of sound pictures.
The highlight of the Society’s event calendar is our highly regarded Silent Summer Film Festival – six consecutive Friday evenings in late July and throughout August. These film classics are presented in the same fashion as they were released more than 70 years ago.
