August 26 – Goth Takeover: Bristol Renaissance Faire (Bristol, WI)

~* This is a “goth takeover” so invite your friends! *~

Welcome one and all to the THIRD annual goth takeover of the Bristol Pleasure Faire! This event is taking place on Saturday, August 26th. The Farie opens at 10am so feel free to come early, and it closes at 7pm. I will be waiting at the gates at 2pm for about twenty minutes to try and get a group together, however feel free to text or post on this event as you arrive so we can all meet up. (your network coverage may vary, I tend to have issues getting a signal)

Tickets at the gate are $25.95 and can also be purchased online, or at Walgreen’s which usually has them on sale for several dollars cheaper. If you find any online discount codes or sales, please post them here!

Finally, invite your friends, and use this page to make plans for carpools, meetups, and group photos. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends! Based on past experiences, goths show up throughout the day and often are too shy to come up and say hi to a group, many of us are socially awkward or anxious, so feel free to grab some alcohol and come be awkward with the rest of us.

You can find more information on the website: http://www.renfair.com/bristol/

Tips:

-Expect it to be as hot as satans butthole. Bring spf 666, perhaps a parasol, and dress accordingly. We may get lucky and have an overcast day, but prepare for the worst.

-Bring plenty of spending money as the ATM’s will charge a fee. Most of the regular venders take cards, but many still do not. The Faire does not allow outside food or drink.

-Have a look at the faire schedule: I have listed a few of my favorite events bellow, but there are all kinds of plays, performers, bands, comedians and more happening so you may want to plan ahead if you’ve never been.

-There are two parking lots, one is $5, and a little further down the road is free parking, free parking requires a bit of a longer walk. The later in the day you arrive, the more likely there will be a long line of cars to get in, so be prepared to sit in your car for some time before getting in. (plan your toilet breaks accordingly)

-Getting a group of goths to stay together is a bit like herding cats, so feel free to get together in smaller groups, but don’t be afraid to socialize! The farie is fun, but this will be a great opportunity to make new friends, and meet people you’ve only talked to online.

Notable Events:

-The Pub Crawl: My favorite event, this happens three times a day (12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) it is $35 and sells out quickly. You will visit 4 pubs, getting a drink at each, and play games while hearing profane and sexually explicit jokes. If you win any of the games you win an extra drink!

-The Final Joust: I believe generally takes place around 5:30, there are several jousts throughout the day, but the final joust is too the death. Blood will spurt and screams of anguish will be heard!

– The Danse Macabre: As the characters in the allegory of the Danse come from all walks of life, the performers of the Danse are drawn from across all of Bristol’s participants. Weather permitting, the mysterious and elusive Danse Macabre will arise near the end of the faire day for a performance that must be seen to be believed.

-2 Merry Men 7 Deadly Sins: Spin the “Wheel of Sin” and join Robin Hood and Little John as they sing you all the songs that you love so well. Twisted comedy and music, definitely not for the kiddies. Laugh and sing along with songs of burning pubs, dock side floozies, and yes…even a song about Moose. Just remember, what happens in the woods…STAYS in the woods!

These are just a few of my favorites, but there is all kinds of entertainment to be had so be sure to check the website or pick up a schedule when you get to the Faire.
